The ECW (Episcopal Church Women)
Mission Statement for the Diocese of New York
The purpose of the Association is to unite women of the Episcopal Diocese of New York in a program of worship, study, service, gifts and fellowship which will deepen and strengthen their own spiritual lives and lead them into service as the Church in the parish, the community, the diocese, the nation and the world.
Episcopal Church Women's Prayer
Almighty God, we pray that you will bless our work in mission and ministry in the world. Help us to pray fervently, labor diligently and give liberally to make known the power of your love given through your son Jesus. Let us not forget the lessons from the past nor fear the challenges of the future. Anoint us with your grace and shine in our hearts as we reflect your light throughout the world. Amen.
The ECW of the Church of Saint Andrew meets on the first Thursday of the month at noon (from October until June) to celebrate Holy Eucharist, share a meal and hold their monthly meeting.
Here at St Andrew’s the ECW is one of our arms of Outreach to the community of Staten Island, to the diocese and to our nation. In September the ECW holds their annual Rummage Sale. During the season of Lent they coordinate “Coins for Change,” monies raised and donated to help the Migrant Farm Workers in the Diocese of New York. In the Spring they hold their annual Luncheon which is open to the community.
The ECW also coordinates the United Thank Offering on behalf of the parish. The UTO is held twice yearly and the funds raised are used to assist parishes throughout the diocese through grants and gifts.
The Evening Guild
The Evening Guild is the in-reach organization for the parish. Simply said, the Evening Guild takes care of the social aspects of our Common Life. The membership is made up (traditionally) of women who want to get involved with their Church to help create a strong fellowship between all the members of the parish.
The Evening Guild sponsors the following yearly events:
The Evening Guild meets the first Tuesday of the month in Burch Hall beginning at 7:30 pm (September thru June).
The Men’s Club
The Men’s Club is not like any of club or organization in the parish. They do not hold regular meetings or have an elected board and they do not sponsor events on behalf of the parish. But they are a visible presence within our parish.
You can find them cooking for Homecoming, helping with the Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday and lending a hand whenever possible, to make our facility look great.
Each year at the Parish Holiday Fair the Men’s Club sponsors a table of handcrafted items and of Vermont Cheddar Cheese.
Parish Archives
The Parish Archives Committee was formed several years prior to our 300th Anniversary Year in hopes that we could organize, document and file our long and beautiful history.
Over the past several years the Archive Committee has sorted through and filed the many pieces of history that has been collected over the years. They also research Baptisms, Burials and Marriages found in our Record Books for the inquiry of former members and distant relatives.
The Archive Committee has been known to meet on a bi-monthly basis on Wednesdays.
